DESCRIPTION:\nThe Florida Department of Elder Affairs’ SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Program is available to provide free, unbiased information and assistance to Florida Medicare beneficiaries as they carefully evaluate their health care options. The SHINE Program, operated locally by the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, serves seven counties in southwest Florida. Marilyn Gregory, an 18 year SHINE counselor, conducts public outreach on behalf of the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida and its SHINE program. Topics covered include the basics of the Medicare program, including Medicare supplement insurance, Medicare Advantage plans, prescription drug plans and financial assistance programs that help consumers with Medicare copays. Marilyn has also served as a licensed Affordable Care Act Navigator in Charlotte County assisting consumers navigate the health care marketplace and Florida Kidcare.\n \nPrior to her retirement Marilyn served on staff at the Area Agency on Aging as its Health and Wellness Coordinator.  Recently she has served in consultant roles for Florida Blue (Blue Cross and Blue Shield) and the Area Agency on Aging.\n
